Starry Night Sky with Bow

The Beginnings of Book 2

The sequel to Dawn of Wonder is getting underway. The time needed to complete it will depend largely on the length which, at this point, is unknown.

The sequel should have many similarities to the first book, but there is more urgency to this part of the tale, as anyone who as read the first book would imagine. It was extremely difficult to keep myself from writing this book as the first, with a few chapters to summarise the events of book 1. But then there would have been little space to explore that childhood sense of wonder, that secret place inside that some of us remember well and others only vaguely. I also wanted a big foundation for the relationships, the skills, and the hopes that drive the sequel. Book 2 wants to be a furious expression of some of the deepest cries of the heart, at the same time as a sturdy adventure.

Book 3 is in the wings. With this one, the scale is going to increase significantly, and the mysteries will lead far deeper. There’s a great deal to explore, and I’m itching to pursue the threads that were introduced earlier. That book tugs at my thoughts constantly, like it’s jealous of the time being given to book 2. For me, it’s like trying to manage a couple of kids jostling for attention – not unlike being a teacher again.

Thank you to everyone who has bought the debut. I really appreciate all the support. Without you getting behind the first book, it would be very difficult to complete the second. As it is, the sequel looks to be shaping up well. I hope you’ll find it worth the wait.

This has been hands down the best book I’ve read in the past year or more. I’ve been so into it that Im listening to it on audiobooks for the second time to see what I over looked the first time around. I know everyone’s said this but please hurry with the second one!

So I just finished the first book, and I’m hooked. Seriously I have not read anything this good since I don’t even remember anymore. This book leaves me without words. And also filled with an unreasonable amount of them. All I have to say is I’m looking forward to the next book, and hope that I can cook more wonderous meals while listening to your book. https://scontent-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16730281_1231192256917746_3212367244178847047_n.jpg?oh=fdaece0f4414530a0c30fd8ea76a72a8&oe=5946ABC9 (something I cooked while enjoying the book)

Love Love Love the book! Thanks for writing a great read that isn’t all grim-dark! I hate the current trend in books and tv towards depravity and disturbing content becoming the norm. Keep up the good work! You and Brandon Sanderson and Michael Sullivan are my favorite authors!

    Cheers!

If you like those authors, I’d recommend Patrick Rothfuss as well. Name of the Wind and now Dawn of Wonder are my favourite books.

Can’t wait for book 2! Absolutely LOVED The Awakening. There aren’t many books that draw me in so quickly but this book did. Love the characters.

    spoiler alert!
And I can’t wait the read about Aedan’s quest to rescue his friend Kalry, and hoping to enjoy more of Peashot’s antics along the way.

Trying to wait patiently, but I can’t help but google for the release date at least once every other week.

I just wanted to add my praise directly to this site. As a 50 something woman who has been an avid reader since the mid 70’s it is rare I come across a new author that thoroughly grabs my attention. It is a life long treasure hunt finding new authors that I really enjoy, and young Mr. Renshaw is such a treasure.

Perhaps I am not the target audience, but a good book is a good book regardless of target audience. I can say it kept me entertained, reminded me vividly of my own childhood and didn’t leave me feeling like I had to take a soul shower after reading.

Mr Renshaw, I sincerely wish you the best and that the next installment you knock it out of the park.
    Thank you, ever so much

I travel for work and for much of the area I was traveling through when I bought this book didn’t have much radio reception. So I bought this audio book simply because it was 17 some odd hours long. After listening for 9 hours I had to know how the story ended. So I did not put the book down for the rest of the day until I finished it. Since then I have re-read the book at least 5 times and is my go to audio book when ever I am on the road.

Hi Brian. Jonathan is always open to hearing about how he could improve his books, as well as errors that the readers may have picked up. He would appreciate hearing from you. Why don’t you pop him an email on the contact form?

Why are good authors allowed freedom to do anything but write. You should be fed via. IV, fitted with a catheter and confined to a writing room until we have the rest of the story.

I LOVED BOOK 1. Keep up the exceptional work

Mr Dyal, we admit to having seriously considered this, but Jonathan convinced us that no good writing comes from a grumbling stomach. 😉 We all wait in eager anticipation!

I really enjoyed this! I listened to the audiobook, and I hope the next one will have an audio version as well — with such a long book, it made it easier to get through if I could listen while I did other things. I look forward to the next installment! Also, thanks so much for your links to human trafficking sites — I was very interested in what I read there, and in the great work being done.

Well what do suggest I read in the meantime while waiting for Book 2 and The Doors of Stone and Oathbringer? To be clear, yes, I consider your work up there with those guys so hurry up bro. Let me know if you have any recommendations in the interim.

I’m right there with you! Seriously, all three of those. Also, still waiting on Winds of Winter. So much waiting. I recently read some more Sanderson. The Mistborn books were great. Really all of his works are fun. Also loved the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind, at least some of them. The first one Wizards First Rule is one of my favorites.
I am also looking for some more series like this one! Dawn of Wonder was such a great book. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I just finished listening to Book 1. Oh. My. Goodness! What a delight! I always hesitate to write a review of a book or write to the author telling them how much I enjoyed their work because, frankly, I am a fat, spoiled word consumer and not a svelte, prolific, word producer. Thank you for helping to keep me nice and fat. Book 1 had me licking the bowl and hunting around looking for more. All of the years of rewrites paid off. Your 66 course meal was so flavorful and filling yet left me wanting 100 additional courses. Yum, yum yum.

Dawn of Wonder has been the most incredible book I have read in a long time. Thank you for sharing this story. I rarely read these types of books, but came away from this one with a real sense of being a part of a special happening. I am recommending this book to everyone I know. I can’t hardly wait for the next adventure.

I am so glad that I happened to stumble across this book! I am very impressed with how well written this story is and found myself scrambling to finish. I can’t wait for the next book to come out and I can already tell that it will be one of those works that I will be able to read over and over again.

It’s rare that a book will keep my up at night reading. It’s nice, finding a book again, that kept my eyes glued to every page. An amazing job of story telling.

    Well done.

Morning. really looking forward to the next book. Its been a while since I read the first and with that in mind can I ask, will there be a quick “story so far” in the 2nd book, or on this site to help us with ageing memories out please?

Hi Stewart. Yes, there will be a short recap of the story of Book 1 at the beginning of Book 2, as well as something on the website to get us back into the swing of Aedan and his adventures.

I am so eager to start reading the second book. I bought the first not knowing what to expect, I sometimes buy a random book at the book store just to broaden my horizons, and then I finished it in three days, I just couldn’t put it down. I want to say Please take your time and make sure the second lives up to the first, but at the same time I really want it now.
